Day 1 – Dayton, OH
We invite you to join us on this journey to Washington, D.C. for an adventure unlike anything we have ever done. We welcome you aboard our deluxe motorcoach this morning for travels eastward, with our first night’s destination to be Dayton, Ohio, where your evening is on your own.
Day 2 – C & O Canal, Rocky Gap Lodge
Breakfast is included at the hotel before continuing our journey through Ohio and portions of West Virginia and Pennsylvania, arriving in Cumberland, Maryland by mid afternoon. Once here, you will visit the C & O Canal National Historical Park and learn about canal building in the mountains from costumed characters from the past. Your accommodations will be in the Rocky Gap Lodge in the Western Maryland Mountains where you will have dinner tonight in their Lakeside Restaurant, followed by an evening around the campfire with toasted marshmallows. Day 3 – Leesburg, Washington, D.C. Embassy Dinner
A hearty breakfast buffet awaits you this morning at Rocky Gap before you depart for Leesburg, Virginia. Upon arrival, you have a scheduled tour of Dodona Manor. Located in the historic district of Leesburg, this is the home of George G. Marshall, author of “The Marshall Plan”. You also have admission to Morven Park and the Museum of Hounds & Hunting and the Carriage Museum. A special luncheon is included here, along with a local Wine Greeting Gift before continuing on into Arlington, Virginia for a two-night stay. Tonight a very special treat is in store as we have scheduled dinner in one of the International Embassies in Washington, D.C. This will be an experience you will not forget. Day 4 – Washington, D.C. Touring, Marine Band Concert
This will be a day to experience the Nation’s Capital, starting with breakfast at the hotel, followed by a visit to Arlington National Cemetery. The former plantation and home to General Robert E. Lee, Arlington is the final resting place for several members of the Kennedy family, prizefighter Joe Louis, Audie Murphy and thousands of soldiers from every major U.S. war as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. A tour of the Washington National Cathedral precedes lunch on your own before a drive- by view of the U.S. Capitol, and a photo stop of the White House. Several Memorials will be on your agenda yet this afternoon, starting with a stop at the World War II Monument, followed by The Air Force Memorial and the Memorial to the 184 people who died at the Pentagon on September 11th. Dinner is included this evening, then enjoy a concert by the United States Marine Band and the Marine Corps Evening Parade. Return to your hotel late this evening. Washington, D.C area (B,D))
Day 5 – Memorial Touring, Mt. Vernon and the Washingtons
You have a leisurely breakfast at the hotel before departing for a stop that will give you the opportunity to visit the Viet Nam Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. Also included today will be admission to President Lincoln’s Cottage, the most significant historic site directly related to Lincoln’s presidency other than the White House. Lunch is included at Gadsby’s Tavern in Alexandria, Virginia, made extra special with an appearance by Martha Washington, who is delighted to have you visit her hometown.
This afternoon you can experience the home of her husband, George Washington as you make a stop at Mt. Vernon, on the banks of the Potomac. You arrive in Charlottesville, Virginia late this afternoon where dinner is on your own. Charlottesville, VA (B,L)
Day 6 – Thomas Jefferson
Today is a full day of activities in Virginia. Breakfast is first, then a tour of Monticello which will include the home of Thomas Jefferson, the Visitors Center & the Smith Gallery, dedicated to the life and times of Jefferson. A hearty colonial buffet lunch is prepared for you at historic Michie Tavern, served by staff in period costume. At the chapel on the University of Virginia campus you are welcomed by the man himself, Thomas Jefferson. You will have a chance to talk with him and hear how he views the world today from the perspective of his time. After all that, you can sit back and relax as you travel north along a portion of the famed Skyline Drive through the upper portion of the Shenandoah National Park, with a couple of stops for photos along this very picturesque highway. Your destination is the elegant George Washington hotel in Winchester, Virginia. Enjoy dinner on your own tonight in their Dancing Goat Restaurant. Winchester, VA (B,L)
Day 7 – Patsy Cline
Breakfast is served for you this morning then we have included a brief riding tour of Winchester and the guide is none other than Patsy Cline. This was Patsy’s hometown and a step-on guide will take you on a tour of the place where she began her radio career at age 14. Now it’s time to begin our travel toward home. Returning through Ohio, you stop near Columbus for the last overnight, where this evening you can enjoy a delicious farewell dinner. Columbus, OH (B,D)
Day 8 – Travel Home
Rise and Shine. Today, after you have breakfast at the hotel, is a travel day to your original departure point, giving you time to relax and look back on this very special American Legends package and hopefully providing you with some great memories. (B)
