DAY 1 – Depart USA
DAY 2 – Lenzerheide
Upon arrival in Zurich, we collect our luggage, meet our tour guide and board our coach. A local city guide takes us on a walking tour of Zurich’s Old Town. We’ll make sure we stop to sample some Swiss chocolate in a local shop. Be sure to buy plenty as it has a tendency to disappear! After our lunch break we continue on to Lenzerheide and check into Hotel Waldhaus am See. We enjoy a welcome dinner this evening. Hotel Waldhaus am See or similar, Lenzerheide. (L,D)
DAY 3 – Lenzerheide
After our first healthy Swiss breakfast, it is time to hit the slopes. The high valley of Lenzerheide is a sun-soaked winter paradise with around 100 miles of perfectly-prepared slopes at snow-friendly altitudes of 4,035 to 9,400 feet above sea level. In no time at all, 34 modern transport facilities zip you to a wide variety of downhill runs, sunny panoramic terraces and cozy Alpine huts. Some of us may choose to attend the women’s downhill practice in the morning along the race slope. For lunch we rest in one of the cozy huts and sample the Swiss food. Hotel Waldhaus am See or similar, Lenzerheide. (B,D)
DAY 4 – Lenzerheide
Today we have the option of attending the men’s downhill race training or taking off to explore the east side of this fantastic ski resort and enjoying some of the Swiss Alp’s wonderful scenery. We end the day at the 5.6 miles long slope from the “Rothorn” to the valley. We gather for some après-ski or use the time until dinner to enjoy the great hotel facilities that include an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, Finnish sauna and steam bath. Tonight we have the possibility of attending the World Cup opening party. Hotel Waldhaus am See or similar, Lenzerheide. (B,D)
DAY 5 – Lenzerheide
Racer’s ready. In the morning some may choose to attend the last World Cup Downhill Race of the 2013/2014 season on the FIS World Cup of men and women. Tickets can be purchased as day tickets or in advance as a 4-Day Pass. This ski slope with an average incline of 31% is not suitable for beginners. With a maximum steepness of 66%, this slope is one of the world’s most challenging and the steepest slope on the women’s World Cup. The finish line is just 3 miles away from our hotel and we have the choice to ski along the race or watch from the bottom at the finish line. Tonight we visit a traditional toboggan run and have an authentic Swiss dinner with music and cheese fondue. Hotel Waldhaus am See or similar, Lenzerheide. (B,D)
DAY 6 – Lenzerheide
Today we take an excursion to Lucerne, which lies on the magnificent “Vierwaldstättersee”. Upon arrival we meet our local guide and take time to cross the famous wooden Chapel Bridge, and stop to see the poignant Lion Monument. It was designed by the Danish sculptor Thorwaldsen, as a memorial to Swiss mercenaries that lost their lives defending the King of France. We return to our hotel for dinner. Hotel Waldhaus am See or similar, Lenzerheide. (B,D)
DAY 7 – Lenzerheide
Another day of skiing awaits us in this charm-ing valley. Some of us may choose to watch the spectacular Nation Team Event where the best 16 nations, including women and men, compete on a giant slalom course. Hotel Waldhaus am See or similar, Lenzerheide. (B,D)
DAY 8 – Lenzerheide
During the final World Cup days, some of you may chose to watch the slalom race for the women and giant slalom race for men. Others may ski, relax at the hotel or hunt for some souvenirs. Hotel Waldhaus am See or similar, Lenzerheide. (B,D)
DAY 9 – Zurich
Today it’s time to say goodbye to Lenzerheide. Before we drive back to Zurich, we may wish to take in the final day’s events of the FIS Ski World Cup 2013/2014 season. In the afternoon, we travel to Zurich where we enjoy our last night in Switzerland. We enjoy a farewell dinner at our hotel. Hotel Mövenpick or similar, Zurich. (B,D)
DAY 10 – Return
Regretfully, it’s time to say “Auf Wiedersehen” and transfer to the Zurich airport, for our international flight back to the USA. Welcome home! (B)
