Day 1 – ARRIVALS: Denver
Airport transfers take us directly to our destination! Tonight’s special dinner is an Oregon Trail campfire cookout served in the shadow of one of the trail’s most distinguished landmarks, Chimney Rock. We’ll sing songs around the campfire and reflect on the spirit of the pioneers who passed this way on their westward journey. Overnight: Hampton Inn, Scottsbluff, NE. (D)
Day 2 – Fort Robinson / Museum of the Fur Trade
This morning we’ll travel to Fort Robinson, a post-Civil War Indian Agency where Crazy Horse breathed his last. This afternoon we’ll visit the outstanding Museum of the Fur Trade, which features authentic Native American handcrafted items for sale and an original fur traders cabin right on the premises. Day 3 – Scotts Bluff National Monument / Agate Fossil Beds
Scotts Bluff was one of the best-known landmarks on the Oregon Trail. Next we’ll visit Agate Fossil Beds, an internationally recognized fossil site. The plains surrounding the fossil beds offers insight into the relationship between land, weather, ecology and mammals. We’ll cap the day with a relaxed wine-tasting at the new Prairie Vine Vineyards. Overnight: Hampton Inn, Scottsbluff, NE (B)
Day 4 – Fort Laramie National Historic Site
Fort Laramie was the best-known milepost on the Oregon Trail. Wagon wheel ruts, living history exhibits and an interpretive tour of the fort provide a deeper understanding of both the westward expansion movement and the Native Americans who were displaced. We’ll end our day at the Historic Plains Hotel, an Historic Hotel of America. Overnight: Cheyenne, WY(B)
Day 5 – Travel, Cheyenne
This morning we’ll tour the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum and get a “behind the chutes” tour of the rodeo grounds. We’ll have free time to browse some exclusive galleries and outfitters and learn more about the town’s cowboy heritage on a narrated trolley tour. The end of the trail is Denver, where we’ll wind up our memorable Old West adventure with a festive farewell dinner. Overnight: Denver, CO (B, D)
