Day One
Today our adventure begins in. We arrive in Topeka KS, check into our deluxe accommodations and freshen up for dinner. Topeka KS (D)
Day Two
Enjoy breakfast at the Brickyard Inn. Take in the views with a delicious, hearty prepared breakfast with several local ingredients. Next we head out to tour the Holy-Field Vineyard & Winery, a family-owned operation, creates 18 different wines. Stop in the tasting room and do some shopping and then it’s time for wine and lunch here at Holy-Field. Early this afternoon we experience the Screamin’ Oaks Farm with this hands-on experience. Feed and milk goats! Plus enjoy homemade ice cream made with goat’s milk if your trip is during the summer. Later this afternoon, see why Ree’s Fruit Farm, a third-generation venture, is one of the best in Kansas and we will stay on the farm for the evening meal. Dinner has never tasted so good and local. Ice & Olives, a Topeka company known for their great sandwiches, will provide catering.(B,L,D)
Day Three
We will begin the day with breakfast at Blue Planet Café, a non-traditional eatery featuring local ingredients and coffee and then tour Kansas Lavender. This fragrant herb, though not native to the plains, grows well in the bluffs overlooking the Kansas River. Late this morning we will also tour Wyldewood Cellars which produces more than 40 different types of Kansas wines after beginning as a small elderberry winery. Enjoy a tasting experience and warm hospitality before pausing for a leisurely lunch at Wyldewood. Later this afternoon see why Oz Highland Farm, a longhorn farm, has been successful in creating a lasting breed. After starting with three Scottish Highland heifers and one bull, the farm has grown to include more than 150 cows and four working bulls. Next we will tour the Kansas State Capitol. View majestic murals and statues while learning the vibrant history of Kansas at the seat of state government. After a full day we will gather the group for dinner at Ravenwood. Enjoy the rustic outdoors in this relaxing setting while noshing on a good meal. (B,L,D)
Day Four
It’s time for breakfast at Downtown Topeka Farmers Market. Shop with local vendors and eat your way through some of the best food in the state and then enjoy lunch at The Burger Stand, gourmet burgers, a variety of fries and a fresh laid-back atmosphere. Next we will visit Iwigs Diary Farm which specializes in good old-fashioned farm food and creates the best chocolate milk in town. Then it’s on to learn about aquaponics at Trash Mountain Project. Learn about the sustainable food production system that combines traditional aquaculture with hydroponics. Late this afternoon we will tour Henrys’ Plant Farm, with chickens, ducks, livestock and 20 greenhouses, before enjoying dinner at the Rowhouse, where the ever-changing menu has two constants: fresh and local. Enjoy one more fresh local breakfast before departing for home.(B)
