Day 2 * Mackinac Island
Journey north to Mackinaw City and board a ferry bound for our magical destination, Mackinac Island. This fairy-tale island emits an old fashioned feel and is almost as unspoiled as it was when the first Europeans arrived three centuries ago. Horse drawn carriages, bicycles, and pedestrians meander along historic streets that offer beautifully preserved structures from the island’s rich past as a fur trading outpost. We’ll spend two nights at the Lake View Hotel overlooking the Straits of Mackinac. After a lovely dinner, explore this scenic island and its unusual shops. Day 3 * Mackinac Island – Horse Drawn Carriage Tour & Lunch at the Grand Hotel
Awake to the sound of gulls as they make their way over the Straits of Mackinac. Following breakfast tour this charming island by horse drawn carriage. Clip-clop over hills and dales seeing stately Victorian homes on high bluffs. Our carriage brings us to the crown jewel of Mackinac Island, The Grand Hotel, the world’s largest summer hotel, where luncheon is scheduled. Day 4 * Frankenmuth & Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland
Today we ferry back to the mainland, board our coach and journey south across the “Mighty Mac,” a 5-mile long suspension bridge that is one of our country’s engineering marvels. Soon we arrive in Frankenmuth, a delightful German village. Stroll over Holz-Brucke, a 239-foot replica of an authentic 19th-century covered bridge, and visit the Bavarian-style shops that line the streets. Visit Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland, the world’s largest Christmas store and a Michigan must-see. We’ll spend tonight in Frankenmuth Drury Inn & Suites, Frankenmuth, Michigan (B)
Day 5 * Ford Rouge Plant or Henry Ford Museum
Continue south to Dearborn. Take a behind the scenes tour of the Ford Rouge Plant, a journey into the genius of American manufacturing, or visit Henry Ford Museum, housing our greatest collection of historically significant vehicles and artifacts. It contains the limousine where President Kennedy was shot and the chair where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Afterwards our travels continue back to Ohio for our overnight stay.. Day 6 * Toledo, Ohio to Staunton, Virginia
