Day 1 – Missouri into Kansas
You are on your way to the Texas Triangle. Your deluxe motorcoach takes you across Iowa, through a portion of Missouri and into the state of Kansas for your first overnight stop. Lodging is provided in Topeka and dinner is included this evening. Topeka, KS (D)
Day 2 – Oklahoma City, National Cowboy Museum
After breakfast at the hotel, it’s time to head south, passing the city of Wichita and into Oklahoma. Your destination is the capital of Oklahoma City where this afternoon you have admission to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Don’t miss the life-size western town and the American Cowboy Gallery. You will also have the opportunity to visit the national memorial to the victims, survivors and rescuers of the Federal building bombing in 1995. Dinner is on your own this evening in Brick Town, the renovated warehouse district. Oklahoma City, OK (B)
Day 3 – Grapevine, Wine Tasting & Dinner
Texas is on the horizon, but before leaving Oklahoma City, we invite you to breakfast at the hotel. Your first glimpse of Texas will be this afternoon in the community of Grapevine, located just outside of Dallas. A local guide will join us for a brief riding tour of this historic and unique small Texas town. Check into your hotel for the next two nights, then conclude this day’s activities by relaxing and enjoying a wine tasting and dinner at one of Grapevine’s well known wineries. Grapevine, TX (B,D)
Day 4 – Dallas Tour, Fort Worth Stockyards
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then travel the short distance to Dallas for touring with a local guide. Included will be a stop at the Sixth Floor Exhibit which memorializes the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, as well as Pioneer Plaza and the West End Historic district. Lunch will be on your own. We arrive in Fort Worth by mid afternoon, just in time for the daily cattle drive through the Stockyards National Historic Site, once the largest livestock marketing center in the Southwest. You will have the remainder of the afternoon and early evening on your own to browse the shops, or engage in some of the optional activities such as the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, Texas Line Dancing or take a walk through the Cowtown Cattlepen Maze. Day 5 – Johnson Space Center, Galveston
After breakfast at the hotel, board the motorcoach and travel east to the Texas Coast. Included is a stop at the Johnson Space Center which tells the story of America’s manned space flight program. Try on a space helmet, touch a moon rock and land the space shuttle. Lunch is on your own here. By mid afternoon, you arrive in the seaport town of Galveston. This evening, we invite you to be our guest for a dinner overlooking Galveston Bay. Overnight will be in Galveston. Galveston, TX (B,D)
Day 6 – Treasure Island Tram, San Antonio
Breakfast is served at the hotel, then board the Treasure Island Tour Tram Train for a 17- mile journey that will feature the major points of interest in Galveston. You depart this area mid morning for the Star of central Texas and the third point on the Triangle, the city of San Antonio, with lunch on your own along the way. A local guide will join us this afternoon for a tour of San Antonio which will include a scheduled stop at the cradle of liberty, The Alamo. Check into your River Walk hotel for the next two nights before dining at one of the wonderful restaurants along the river. Later board a water taxi for an enjoyable ride on the Paseo Del Rio. The remainder of the evening is on your own to enjoy this fabulous city. San Antonio, TX (B,D)
Day 7 – Texas Hill Country
We know you like breakfast, so there is one waiting for you at the hotel. You will need it as you are off on a full day of touring in what is known as the Texas Hill Country. It begins in Fredericksburg, a German community where you will have time to shop and enjoy lunch on your own. This afternoon, you visit the ranch of the 36th President, Lyndon Baines Johnson, near Johnson City. Back in San Antonio, you have a scheduled tour of famed fort Sam Houston.
The evening is at leisure to enjoy some time along the city’s fabulous River Walk. San Antonio, TX (B)
Day 8 – Austin, Depart for Home
Your final day in Texas begins with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Travel north toward Dallas, stopping along the way in Austin. Enjoy a 90 minute riding tour of the Texas capital city, ending at the Texas State History Museum. Take in a 17-minute film on Texas, visit the gift shop and pick up a box lunch to enjoy as you ride to Dallas. Arrive at DFW Airport in Dallas by mid afternoon for your return flight home, having completed the Texas Triangle. (B,BL)
